An investigation of the relation between work pressure and physical infections

Today, it is more or less generally accepted that there is a connection between stress at work and physical resistance. In the last few years, also medical evidence has been assembled to prove that psychosocial factors can influence the physical condition. However, there are few studies that show a link between stress at work and infections, such as gastroenteritis and colds. In the department of Epidemiology, Danielle Mohren received her doctor's degree on this subject. Fatigue seems to be the connection between stress and infections.

Unique study of possible limitation of damage after heart infarct

By joining forces, research institutes CARIM and NUTRIM hope to gain new insights in the role of inflammation processes after a heart infarct. For this objective, CARIM has received a prestigious subsidy from ZON-MW (Care Research Netherlands and Medical Sciences of the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research). The project will soon start.

Recently, research has come to the surprising result that vitamin K as a food supplement not only slows down osteoporosis, but also has a positive effect on the elasticity of the vascular wall. This finding may possibly be the key to a direct preventive approach of two geriatric complaints that affect a considerable part of our population: osteoporosis and vasoconstriction.
